If your hormone medication feels expensive or is out of stock, you're not alone. Pharmacy pricing and availability vary widely. Use the IF/THEN steps below to save time and avoid delays.

Start here (prevents delays)

Before requesting a pharmacy switch, we strongly recommend:

  • Contacting the pharmacy directly to ask about stock and pricing
  • Asking for the cash price (especially from our preferred pharmacies, listed below) even if you plan to use insurance — cash pricing is sometimes lower
  • If using mail-order: create your account first

Tip: This step alone prevents most delays and reduces back-and-forth messages.

Once you've checked stock and pricing, there are two ways to reach us:

If you know where to send the prescription

Routine refills, cost-driven switches, stock-driven switches — anytime you've identified a pharmacy and just need the script sent.

If local pharmacies are out and you need a clinical alternative

We don't have visibility into pharmacy stock and can't tell you which pharmacy has it — that's a phone call only you can make. But once local options are exhausted, we can discuss alternative formulations or an equivalent medication.

IF/THEN guidance

IF your medication price is higher than expected… Cost
  1. Ask the pharmacy for the cash price (even if you planned to use insurance).
  2. If it's still high, choose a different pharmacy (see preferred options below).
  3. Submit a refill request with the new pharmacy info.

IF your medication is out of stock… Stock
  1. Ask the pharmacy if they can order it and what the estimated arrival date is.
  2. If the delay is more than a few days, call other pharmacies (see preferred options below for cost) and confirm stock yourself — we don't have visibility into pharmacy inventory.
  3. Once you've identified a pharmacy with stock, submit a refill request with the new pharmacy info.
  4. If you've checked local pharmacies and none have it, message us — we can discuss alternative formulations or an equivalent medication.

IF the pharmacy says it's backordered… Backorder
  1. Confirm whether they can order it and the expected timeline.
  2. If you want to call other pharmacies and switch to one you've confirmed has stock, submit a refill request with the new pharmacy info.
  3. If waiting isn't an option and stock isn't available locally, message us — we can discuss alternative formulations or an equivalent medication.

IF you want to switch pharmacies proactively… Save

Even if your medication is available, a different pharmacy may be significantly cheaper. Many patients save money simply by switching once.

  1. Choose a pharmacy (see preferred options below).
  2. Confirm pricing and stock with that pharmacy.
  3. Submit a refill request with the pharmacy info.
