If your hormone medication feels expensive or is out of stock, you’re not alone. Pharmacy pricing and availability vary widely. Use the IF/THEN steps below to save time and avoid delays.

Start here (prevents delays)

Before requesting a pharmacy switch, we strongly recommend:

  • Contacting the pharmacy directly to ask about stock and pricing
  • Asking for the cash price (especially from our preferred pharmacies, listed below) even if you plan to use insurance (cash pricing is sometimes lower)
  • If using mail-order: create your account first

Tip: This step alone prevents most delays and reduces back-and-forth messages.

IF/THEN guidance

IF your medication price is higher than expected… Cost
  1. Ask the pharmacy for the cash price (even if you planned to use insurance).
  2. If it’s still high, consider switching pharmacies (see preferred options below).
  3. Message our team to reroute your prescription.
IF your medication is out of stock… Stock
  1. Ask the pharmacy if they can order it and what the estimated arrival date is.
  2. If the delay is more than a few days, switch pharmacies.
  3. If availability issues continue, message us—there are often equivalent options.
IF the pharmacy says it’s backordered… Backorder
  1. Confirm whether they can order it and the expected timeline.
  2. If backordered and your pharmacy is unable to order, switching pharmacies (see preferred options below) is often faster.
  3. Message our team and we’ll help identify the quickest option.
IF you want to switch pharmacies proactively… Save

Even if your medication is available, a different pharmacy may be significantly cheaper. Many patients save money simply by switching once.
